Arrow Electronics’ Interns Help Preserve Colorado’s Highest Mountain Peaks
July 24, 2017 /3BL Media/ - A group of summer interns from Arrow Electronics’ Denver-area global headquarters recently volunteered with the Colorado Fourteeners Initiative (CFI), a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and protecting Colorado’s 14,000–foot mountain peaks or so-called “Fourteeners.”
During the day-long volunteer event, the Arrow intern team installed log check steps on a steep section of the Quandary Peak trail in order to help slow the flow of water and mitigate erosion.
Over 250,000 hikers and climbers visit Colorado’s 50-plus Fourteeners each year, and their collective foot traffic can easily damage the high peaks’ fragile native alpine tundra ecosystems. The CFI engages volunteers to help build and maintain sustainable hiking routes that minimize damage to alpine ecosystems, and to stabilize and restore trampled and eroded areas in order to protect sensitive alpine plant and animal communities.
“It was inspiring to see how passionate the CFI workers are about preserving Colorado’s pristine landscape and teaching others to do the same,” said Cameron Bumsted, an intern on Arrow’s supply chain team. “We witnessed firsthand the hard work and commitment it takes to create and maintain common trail features that most of us take for granted. It was a great learning and team-building experience.”
Arrow’s immersive summer learning program is one of the company’s primary talent-development pipelines. Interns gain real-world experience and the skills needed to transition into full-time Arrow careers at their end of their experience. The majority of eligible interns move into full-time jobs at Arrow after their internship ends. To learn more about Arrow’s intern program, please visit http://arrow-internship.jobs/.
