Arrow Electronics Presents “Courage in Sports”
Global technology company Arrow Electronics sponsored the U.S. television program “Courage in Sports” on Sunday, which highlights stories of athletes all over the world overcoming adversity. This is Arrow’s third year presenting the inspiring annual one-hour documentary-style show.
Among the athletes highlighted this year was Mark Pollock, a well-known adventure athlete who became the first blind person to race to the South Pole in 2009. In 2010, Pollock was in an accident that left him battling paralysis in addition to his blindness. “Courage in Sports” followed Pollock’s return to adventure sports in 2016 on an Arrow-designed smart bicycle.
IndyCar driver James Hinchcliffe’s recovery from a life-threatening crash was also highlighted. On May 18, 2015, the Arrow-sponsored athlete crashed into the wall during a practice lap for the Indy 500, severing his femoral artery. The program highlighted Hinchcliffe’s dramatic recovery and return to the top of his sport as the pole sitter for the 2016 Indianapolis 500.
“Arrow guides innovation forward for the biggest names in technology, and we find inspiration with determined competitors in some of the most challenging circumstances,” said Joe Verrengia, Arrow’s global director of Corporate Social Responsibility. “Whether it’s building a semi-autonomous car for a quadriplegic or a smart bike that enables a former adventure athlete like Mark Pollock to regain his independence, Courage in Sports is a great way to share some of this inspiration with others.”
