Atlantic Copper, a Freeport-McMoRan Company, Renews ISO Energy Efficiency Management Certificate

February 24, 2015 /3BL Media/ - Atlantic Copper has renewed their ISO 50001 certification for its energy management system, and was the first multinational company in the copper industry to receive the internationally recognized certificate.

The goal of ISO 50001 is to provide public and private sector organizations with management strategies to increase energy efficiency, reduce costs and improve energy performance.

The International Organization for Standardization published the first version of ISO 50001 in June 2011. The standard was far more comprehensive and rigorous than the previous standards had been. Since the energy management system has been implemented, Atlantic Copper has achieved a 20% improvement in energy efficiency.

Atlantic Copper’s management priorities include the development of actions aimed at making efficient use of energy and reducing costs. In April 2011, the Company’s energy management system was awarded the UNE-EN 16.001 certificate, which at the time was the only international set of regulations in force that covered this area.
