AT&T Launches CLETeenHack for Civic Engagement

Recently, AT&T and Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) launched CLETeenHack, a 9 week programming contest for high school students in northeast Ohio.

We’ve all heard about “hackathons” in our local communities, but the CLETeenHack is different. Like last year’s CBusStudentHack which engaged students to develop an app focused on health and wellness, CLETeenHack encourages students to use coding to benefit their community.

Cleveland-based We Can Code IT is leading the training for students while Junior Achievement Cleveland will work with all of the supporting organizations to engage the students with career readiness skills.

The theme of CLETeenHack is civic engagement as Greater Cleveland prepares to host the 2016 Republican National Convention (RNC) in July. Students will work over the next nine weeks to design a civic-minded app, just in time for the RNC and the general election in November. Teams of students will design and code different portions of the app while working with mentors, instructors and other assistants. The students will use HTML, CSS and JavaScript to create the final application, which will be usable on computers, phones and tablets.
