Avnet Raises More Than $256,000 for Salvation Army’s Forgotten Angels

Avnet is one of the largest donors to Salvation Army’s Forgotten Angels program in Arizona, raising $39,000 this year and more than $256,000 since 2007. The Avnet Cares team at the Global Solutions Center in Chandler, Arizona describes this annual program as a labor of love and recognizes that the strong support of Avnet’s leaders and the generosity of Avnet’s employees, suppliers and vendors are what make it successful year after year.

Avnet has been supporting the Salvation Army for many years. Through the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program, shoppers take tags off trees and donate new clothes or toys for a specific child. Those children whose tags are not selected are Forgotten Angels, and Avnet has been helping them since 2007.

Avnet’s support of the Forgotten Angels program has grown over time. In its first year, Avnet employees gave $3,875 in donations which was matched by Avnet for a total of $7,750. To increase donations and create a fun experience for employees, the Avnet Cares team introduced a fundraising raffle in 2007. The raffle gives employees the chance to win a variety of items donated by Avnet’s suppliers and vendors, from flat screen televisions and the latest tech gadgets to hotel stays. This year Avnet raised $39,000 for the Forgotten Angels program including a grant from Avnet. Continuing Avnet’s annual tradition, a group of employees took the funds to local Wal-Mart stores, buying hundreds of toys for Forgotten Angels.
