Bacardi Canada Recognized for Environmental Commitment
Winner of Elsie Award Presented by Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO)
Setting the bar for environmentally sustainability is a part of the DNA of family-owned Bacardi. This Bacardi team in Canada was once again celebrated for its efforts to building a more sustainable future with an Elsie Award from the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO). The annual awards are presented to beverage alcohol suppliers and agents that demonstrate innovation, creativity and commitment to customer service and social responsibility. This year, Bacardi Canada, Inc., received the award for “Environmental Commitment” during the 25th Annual Elsie Awards hosted in Toronto this June, marking the third consecutive year that Bacardi has been recognized for environmental leadership by this awards program. Established in 1927, the LCBO is a crown corporation and one of the world’s largest buyers and responsible retailers of beverage alcohol
Bacardi, a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact, has aligned its Corporate Responsibility goals with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs). The company has set ambitious targets to reduce its environmental impact with a focus on overall water efficiency, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, zero-waste-to-landfill programs, and a reduction of single-use plastic across the supply chain.
“We are honored to be recognized by the LCBO as this is a testament to our leadership in doing the right thing for our people and the planet,” says Blair MacNeil, VP Bacardi Canada. “Our environmental goal is to give back at least as much as we take away and, as a family-owned business for more than 157 years, we are committed to protecting the natural resources that will ensure a legacy for centuries to come.”
The Elsie award for Environmental Commitment recognizes suppliers who invest in raising awareness and funds for environmental issues, or promote positive environmental action and embody it in the work they do.
Bacardi Canada, Inc., was also a 2019 Elsie Award finalist in the category of “ Best Social Responsibility Campaign” for the company’s global #TheFutureDoesntSuck program designed in collaboration with the Lonely Whale Foundation to eliminate one billion single-use plastic straws by 2020.
