Baker Hughes Foundation Awards $60,000 to Red Cross in Europe for Wildfire Disaster Relief
LONDON, Aug. 2, 2022 /3BL Media/ – The Baker Hughes Foundation has announced a $60,000 grant to Red Cross Societies in Europe to provide support for those affected by the wildfires.
In June and July, heat waves triggered wildfires across Europe. Baker Hughes has over 10,000 employees in Europe and is committed to promoting the safety, health and welfare of the communities where it operates. This donation also supports the company’s commitment to advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — specifically SDG 3 to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all and SDG 6 to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
National Red Cross Societies are the backbone of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. National Societies provide a range of services, including disaster relief, health and social programs. Each society is made up of an unparalleled network of community-based volunteers and staff who are often first on the scene when a disaster strikes, and they remain active within affected communities long after everyone else has left. This grant will be sent to the Red Cross Societies in the United Kingdom, Italy, France and Germany.
“Our hearts go out to all of those affected by the wildfires in Europe. We understand the recovery and rebuilding process extends far beyond the initial disaster, and we are thankful the Red Cross stands ready with critical support for as long is necessary,” said Brian Worrell, president of the Baker Hughes Foundation and chief financial officer of Baker Hughes. “Our Baker Hughes team is grateful for the firefighters and first responders protecting us. We stand by our employees, our neighbors and our community during this difficult time.”
