Baker Hughes Foundation Contributes $350,000 to Global Reforestation
HOUSTON, November 2, 2022 /3BL Media/ - The Baker Hughes Foundation has announced a $350,000 grant to One Tree Planted in support of global reforestation initiatives. The grant will be applied toward projects to plant 350,000 trees in regions where Baker Hughes conducts business in the Americas, Australia, Malaysia, England and Indonesia.
One Tree Planted is a non-profit organization focused on global reforestation. Their mission is to make it simple for anyone to help the environment by planting trees to restore forests, create habitat for biodiversity, and make a positive social impact around the world. The organization has planted over 40 million trees in more than 47 countries across the globe since 2014.
This grant aligns with the Baker Hughes Foundation’s mission of promoting environmental outcomes such as nature-based climate solutions and biodiversity. This donation also supports Baker Hughes’ commitment to advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – specifically SDG 12 to ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns. Baker Hughes will not claim carbon offsets as a result of these projects.
The Baker Hughes Foundation first partnered with One Tree Planted in 2021, donating $250,000 to fund reforestation projects in Romania, India, Brazil, Idaho and Cameroon.
“In addition to many critical ecological benefits, forests provide jobs for over 1.6 billion people and play an important role in communities. We believe in giving back to the communities where we live and work, and this contribution helps us advance the Baker Hughes Foundation’s longstanding philanthropic mission,” said Brian Worrell, president of the Baker Hughes Foundation board of trustees. “In addition to our Foundation grant to One Tree Planted, Baker Hughes employee volunteers will be planting trees in England, Dubai and Houston later this year, with more locations to follow. We are proud to partner with One Tree Planted on this important endeavor.”
“The work we do is not just about trees. It’s about the planet’s life support systems for clean air, water, biodiversity, climate, health, and social impact — what we call the 6 pillars of reforestation,” said Matt Hill, chief environmental optimist at One Tree Planted. “Our work is made possible by support from communities and donors like the Baker Hughes Foundation.”
