Bard MBA to Host Live Podcast on Citizen-Driven Strategies that Drive LOCAL Economic Development
BardMBA Interviews Susan Witt and Alice Maggio, Directors, Schumacher Center for a New Economics
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y., December 16, 2015 /3BL Media/ - The Bard MBA in Sustainability will host a live discussion on citizen-driven strategies for local economic development with Susan Witt and Alice Maggio on the dial-in podcast, Sustainable Business Fridays, on Friday, December 18th, at 12pm.
Susan Witt and Alice Maggio are directors at the Schumacher Center for a New Economics, an organization working to educate the public about an economics that supports both the people and the planet. They will be discussing how a citizen-driven approach that uses “import replacement” can function as a strategy for local economic development.
According to Witt, "If we are to transition to an economic system that is both equitable and sustainable, one that reflects unique regional cultures, cares for the well-being of its workers, and fosters stewardship of the fragile ecosystem, we will need an economic system that values independent businesses with deep roots in their local communities. The result [will} be an economy that encourages more labor-intensive, small-batch production transported over short distances, creating more jobs but not more ‘stuff,’ with a smaller carbon footprint than that of a global economy with centralized production systems."

Bard MBA in Sustainability hosts Sustainable Business Fridays, a dial-in podcast series, twice monthly at 12pm EST. BARD MBA IN SUSTAINABILITY
The Bard Graduate Programs in Sustainability offer masters programs in Environmental Policy, Climate Science and Policy, and Sustainable Business.
