BJ's Wholesale Club Celebrates the Holiday Tradition of Generosity This #GivingTuesday
BJ's Wholesale Club is once again participating in #GivingTuesday to kick off the holiday charitable season. Local Clubs throughout its footrprint organized donations to help the following nonprofits:
- The Y in Central Maryland received $1,700 in needed supplies, specifically books, to support Head Start programming from the BJ's in Baltimore, MD. The Y in Central Baltimore’s Head Start program has been designated a National Center of Excellence by the Department of Health Services. The program is only one of 10 Head Start programs in the country to receive this designation. Throughout Baltimore County, they provide a traditional Head Start program for preschool children ages 3 – 5 and an Early Head Start program for infants and toddlers, age 6 months –3 years. Their goal is to ensure that every child is school-ready.

The Future Foundation was given a $1,500 donation of cleaning and school supplies as well as food from the BJ's in East Point, GA. Future Foundation empowers youth and their families to take the hard steps up and out of poverty. The reality is that only 54% of students in South Fulton are graduating on time. This is an alarming statistic, but there is hope and opportunity for change. Future Foundation has a track record of a 100% graduation rate. Its mission is to level the playing field for metro Atlanta youth by providing quality education, health, and life skills programs.

The Lansdale Area YMCA received nearly $1,300 worth of items including Apple iPad Mini 16BG tablets, FitBit Flex Wireless Activity and Sleep Wristbands, and a Royal Cross-Cut Shredder from the BJ's in Montgomeryville, PA. The iPads will be used by the YMCA’s members to update their activity in the wellness center, as part of the organization's new software.

The Community Action Programs Inner-City, Inc. (CAPIC) received over $1,000 worth of snacks, art kits and two televisions by the BJ's in Revere, MA. CAPIC was also given a $600 BJ’s gift card to purchase items for its Head Start and after school programs. CAPIC works to identify and address the needs, problems and concerns of those in poverty while helping to enable the individually poor to achieve and maintain self-sufficiency.

The YMCA of Burlington and Camden Counties was given $1,700 of craft activities for after school programming by the BJ's in Maple Shade, NJ. The YMCA serves 23 area schools through academic intervention, healthy activities and enrichment opportunities throughout to help boost grades and reduce risk-taking behaviors for students in K-6.
Now in its fourth year, #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Observed on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.
