Campaign: Hunger Relief

According to the USDA, nearly 22 million children rely on free and reduced-priced lunch to sustain a full and nutritious diet nationwide - only 18% of children that receive school lunch access summer meal assistance. To help ensure that these children get enough to eat during the summer months, local Clubs partnered with hunger-relief agencies in July to donate both food and funds to support various summer feeding programs.

  • The Joshua Project BJ’s in Rotterdam, New York, presented Director Patrick Costello of The Joshua Project and nonprofit volunteers with $1,700 worth of needed items to support their Summer Lunch and Back Pack Programs. This program serves 6,000 lunches to children and their families. The Joshua Project is a nonprofit group of faith based volunteers working for social justice in their communities by improving the lives of those who are most vulnerable.
  • Bread for Life – BJ’s in Southington, CT, contributed a $1,700 donation to Bread for Life's meal program that provides free pre-packaged "grab 'n' go" nutritional lunches to youth 18 and younger at three sites at Wheeler Village, Summer Brook Apartments and Memorial Park. The mission of Bread for Life is to provide food, fellowship and a sense of dignity to those in need. In the past year alone, Bread for Life has served more than 35,000 meals to Southington residents.
  • CHILD, Inc. – BJ’s in Newark, Delaware donated more than $1,500 worth of product to CHILD, Inc., to aid their efforts in preventing summer hunger and bridging the nutrition gap during the summer months. Through a partnership with the Food Bank of Delaware, BJ's is able to support CHILD, Inc., an organization whose mission is to be the leading advocate of Delaware's children. CHILD, Inc. operates a family resource center in the Sparrow Run community in Bear, DE, and during the summer, this program feeds 100 children, five days a week.
