BNSF was recently presented with a copy of a proclamation by the Governor of Kansas in recognition of its ongoing support of the Kansas Operation Lifesaver program and rail safety.
The Governor of Kansas proclaimed May 5-11, 2013, as Operation Lifesaver Days in Kansas. In a ceremonial event, the governor signs three copies of the proclamation and draws statewide attention to railroad safety day and International Level (Grade) Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD). This year, Operation Lifesaver shared a framed print with BNSF in recognition for its continued support.
“If BNSF did not support Operation Lifesaver in the capacity that it does, our organization would not be functioning right now,” said Julie LaCombe, executive director of Opeartion Lifesaver in Kansas. “We are continually grateful for BNSF’s funding and partnership.” The proclamation was bestowed by Tom LaCombe to Steve Neubauer, director, BNSF Field Safety Support, following the railway’s participation in ILCAD. A railroad engineer himself, LaCombe is a certified presenter and volunteer for Operation Lifesaver in Kansas. Operation Lifesaver is a nationwide organization devoted to saving lives by providing free public education about safety around railroad tracks. As a non-profit entity, the group is sponsored by government agencies, highway safety associations and railroad companies. “This proclamation signifies an effort we’re proud of and it is one way to share a token of our thanks to BNSF,” said Julie LaCombe.
