Bombardier Tops Canadian R&D Spenders for Second Consecutive Year
November 12, 2014 /3BL Media/ - For the second year in a row, Bombardier Inc. was recognized as Canada’s top Research and Development (R&D) spender by Research Infosource. Bombardier’s R&D spending amounted to $2.2 billion Cdn for fiscal year 2013 – a 15.4% increase compared to 2012.
These investments in innovative mobility solutions enable Bombardier to proactively address societal needs and to seize emerging business opportunities. Rapid population growth, globalization and urbanization bring increasing demands for Bombardier’s fast, comfortable, energy-efficient and environmentally responsible planes and trains.
The CSeries commercial aircraft, the Learjet 85, Global 7000 and Global 8000 business jets, and an evolving portfolio of rail transportation solutions, including the new-generation MOVIA C30 metro and the ZEFIRO very high speed trains, will further strengthen Bombardier’s competitive positioning.
As Bombardier prepares to bring these cutting-edge products to market, it is already seeing validation of its R&D investments with a steady increase in its order backlog, which reached an unprecedented $69.7 billion as at December 31, 2013. The innovations it designs into its products today will give future populations cleaner, safer and more convenient means of transport, while ensuring Bombardier’s profitability for years to come.
