  • Infineon and Willowglen recognised for their contribution to a responsible supply chain
  • Bombardier committed to promoting Corporate Social Responsibility and sustainable business practices

July 10, 2013 /3BL Media/ - Rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation presented this year’s Supplier Sustainability Awards to its suppliers Infineon Technologies AG and Willowglen Systems Inc. The awards recognise suppliers’ accomplishments in the field of sustainable development and value their commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Products and services that meet Bombardier’s high environmental and safety standards further Bombardier’s competitive advantage in a market evolving towards more sustainable business practices and strengthen the company’s aim to shape the future of mobility, responsibly.

All Bombardier’s Master Vendors who have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to good governance, ethical values, respect for employees and the environment were invited to apply for Sustainable Suppliers’ Awards. The evaluation process of the Bombardier jury focused on proactive initiatives, product innovation, social integrity and environmental stewardship as these elements provide added value to their business.

Infineon was honoured in the category of suppliers with more than 500 employees for its environmental product stewardship and transparency in material and resource declaration. Willowglen received the award in the category of suppliers with less than 500 employees for excellence in product safety innovation as well as for academic and societal engagement guided by a strong CSR spirit. The awards were presented by Me Daniel Desjardins, Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Corporate Secretary and CSR Committee Chairman, Bombardier Inc., and Charles O’Donnell, Chief Procurement Officer, Bombardier Transportation, during the Suppliers’ Days at the company’s headquarters in Berlin, Germany.

Following the event Daniel Desjardins said, “Congratulations to both Infineon and Willowglen for their commitment to a responsible supply chain, which is a key component of Bombardier’s Corporate Social Responsibility strategy.” He added, “Our products contribute to a sustainable future in public transportation and our suppliers' expertise plays a crucial role in designing and manufacturing advanced components for our trains. By honouring our suppliers with these awards, we not only highlight the importance of CSR to Bombardier and its stakeholders, but also encourage suppliers to enhance their CSR performance through friendly competition.”

Bombardier put mechanisms in place to enhance the sustainability of their procurement processes, address supply chain risks, ensure efficiency and economic viability, promote respect for business ethics, human rights and internationally sanctioned labour standards across their global supply chain. Suppliers who are Bombardier’s key stakeholders play a crucial role to contribute to the company’s long term business success and to realise Bombardier’s strategic goals to achieve flawless execution and deliver customer satisfaction.
