Boots and Macmillan partnership recognized as ‘Most Admired’ Corporate-NGO Partnership in the UK
The Boots UK and Macmillan Cancer Support partnership, now in its 10th year, has been voted the Most Admired Corporate-NGO Partnership in the C&E Barometer 2019, a survey conducted among leading global companies and NGOs.
The Boots UK and Macmillan Cancer Support partnership was recognized for its strategic fit, impact, longevity, strong clear communications and mutual benefit.
Through their collaboration, Boots and Macmillan have established Boots Macmillan Information Pharmacists (BMIPs) and Boots Macmillan Beauty Advisors (BMBAs) to provide in-store support for people with cancer on how to manage the effects of cancer and cancer treatments.
As of August 2019, there are more than 2,000 BMIPS and more than 1,100 BMBAs working for Boots. Together, they’ve conducted over 146,000* consultations and conversations with people living with cancer across the UK. In addition to in-store support, Boots UK employees and customers have raised over £18 million (nearly $22 million in U.S. currency) over 10 years to support Macmillan’s cancer initiatives.
“Cancer affects so many people and is one of the hardest fights a person and their family can face,” said Una Kent, Boots’ director of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and communications. “For ten years this incredible partnership has been brought to life by our wonderful colleagues who give their time and care to both our patients and their families and friends.”
“We are absolutely thrilled to have won this accolade. Cancer can affect every part of your life, not just your health, and our partnership with Boots enables us to support people in ways that we couldn’t do on our own,” said Lynda Thomas, Macmillan Cancer Support’s chief executive. “Macmillan is almost entirely funded by donations so we would also like to thank Boots’ inspiring staff and generous customers for their continued support and fundraising efforts, which enable us to do even more for the growing number of people with cancer in the UK.”
Boots and its parent company Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA) are committed to supporting people with cancer around the world. To learn more about WBA’s cancer initiatives, click here or here.
