From Bright Idea to a Rural Solar-Powered Classroom
How Dell’s employees met the challenges of donating educational technology to a Nigerian school
There are real challenges to making robust, functional ICT (information and communication technology) accessible to students in rural areas. “We’ve found a way to bridge the gap by looking at the problem collaboratively and combining the expertise of several local NGOs (non-government organizations) with Dell technology,” Deb Bauer, director of strategic giving and community engagement at Dell says. Bauer’s team manages Dell’s Youth Learning program, one of Dell’s strategic giving programs.
Today, students at State Senior High School in rural Nigeria benefit from that collaboration within a whole new learning environment: a refurbished shipping container with computers and the internet – powered by the sun and donated Dell Wyse energy-efficient technology.
