Bring Happiness Home With A Recycled Pet

We don’t change pets, they change us. Pet adoption saves a life and may even extend yours.

I’ve heard people say that adopting a pet is a little like recycling.

Actually, I don’t like that analogy. It’s not at all like recycling. It’s more like upcycling.

Recycling implies that something has outlived its usefulness and needs to be re-invented into something else.

I don’t believe that’s any truer of pets than it is of old folks or cast iron cookware. We don’t change pets, they change us. We’re the ones who get recycled in this scenario. Pets transform us into the people we were meant to be.

So why are there millions of perfectly good, faithful, beautiful pets just waiting around for someone to take them home and let them be the loving friends they want to be?

Think about it... If pets were valued as much as used handbags, and you found one at your local thrift store, you’d snatch it up before anyone could grab it away from you and immediately text your friends to gloat over the find you just snagged.

And yet, there are more than 30 million puppies and kittens born in the United States every year. As many as 12 million of these pets end up in animal shelters for one reason or another. Others are abandoned in rural and urban areas.

But, research suggests that pet owners are happier and live longer than non-pet owners.

So no matter what you want to call it... recycling, upcycling, adopting or just plain old giving in to those sweet, soulful eyes that need you -- give a pet a home.

I promise, you won’t be disappointed.
