Brown-Forman Named Compassionate Louisville Business
One of First Businesses in City to Make Declaration
March 19, 2015 /3BL Media/ - Brown-Forman Corporation has signed on to become a Compassionate Business, part of the City of Louisville’s efforts to become the most Compassionate City in America. Brown-Forman endorsed a resolution supporting the city’s efforts to nurture the growth of compassion within our community.
“As a leading corporate citizen that embodies the values of care and respect for the community and each other, Brown-Forman is proud to be one of the first corporations to develop and sign our own Compassionate Louisville Business resolution,” said Rob Frederick, vice president, director, corporate responsibility, Brown-Forman Corporation. “For this important vision of compassion to become reality, it will take the full community coming and working together. We encourage our corporate colleagues and others in Louisville to take part in this worthwhile endeavor.”
The Compassionate Louisville initiative is seeking partners in our community to make a commitment to enhance, promote, and celebrate the depth of compassion that exists in Louisville. They are asking 100 schools, 100 businesses, and 100 organizations to adopt a resolution.
Brown-Forman’s Compassionate Business resolution includes embracing inclusion for all; promoting social innovation; empowering employees to be engaged in charitable activities; enabling employees to live healthy and balanced lifestyles; cultivating a spirit of hospitality; promoting environmental stewardship; donating to the welfare of the community; contributing our resources to promoting responsible drinking and reducing alcohol related harm; maintaining open awareness and understanding; and inspiring others to adopt compassionate values.
Mayor Fischer made compassion one of the three foundational pillars of his administration. On November 11, 2011, the Mayor signed a resolution adopted by the Louisville Metro Council declaring Louisville a Compassionate City and embarked on a ten year campaign to implement and live by that pledge.
“Our journey began three years ago when we became the first city of our size to sign on to the Compassion Charter,” Fischer said. “That was a deliberate step toward taking the spirit and caring that already lived within us, and challenging ourselves to do more. Since that time, Louisville has helped more than 30 other cities around the continent to become compassionate cities. That is a huge testament to the quality of our own city and its people and a testament to the human spirit and innate desire of the vast majority of people everywhere to help others.”
The Charter for Compassion has named Louisville the Model Compassionate City for 2014. Louisville was also named the Model City in 2012 and 2013. The Charter for Compassion, based in Seattle, Washington, is a cooperative effort to restore compassionate thinking and compassionate action to the center of religious, moral and political life.
