Have you seen the Kia Soul hamster advertisements? How about that catchy phrase, "You can get with this" or You can get with that." Love it! Why? Because from a sustainability perspective, one can equate traditional business models as getting with THAT and sustainable business strategies as getting with THIS.
We've all heard it before, "If you always do what you've always done, then you'll always get what you always got." In other words, you can't solve the problem with the same thinking that created it. Such is the case with climate change, carbon, water, and other pressing world concerns. So, if getting with THAT isn't cutting it, then what is getting with THIS mean? It means a change in perspective. The lens of business sustainability is that perspective. Business sustainability isn't about sacrificing profitability or becoming an environmental business. Sustainable business strategies span a multitude of topics: stewardship of resources; best practices; reputation, brand management and customer service; leveraging technology and enable a business to meet goals of growth and revenue generation while simultaneously contributing innovative thought leadership to some of the world’s most complex and pressing concerns.
