For the second post in our CA World preview series we’re highlighting the pre-conference educational session “The Strategic Role of IT in Corporate Sustainabil’IT’y.” This session is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 15, 2010 from 1:30 – 3:30 pm PT at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas, and will be delivered by Bernie Siryk, Vice President of Client Services at Global Green Consulting Group, Inc. Bernie is responsible for the design and execution of all service engagements, and he is extensively involved in the development of solutions offered in collaboration with partners such as CA.
We asked Bernie a few questions about the upcoming session in a recent email conversation:
Q: Tell us about what you will be presenting in your upcoming session at CA World 2010?
A: This session is aimed at discussing business sustainability and the role IT plays in promoting these efforts. I will start with appropriate background information and some definitions to ensure everyone is clear as to what is being discussed. I’ll then provide examples of firms who are clear leaders in the sustainability arena before highlighting the strategic and tactical responsibilities IT can play in sustainability initiatives and programs.
Q: What are the top 3 things you want attendees to learn from your session?
Why IT is uniquely and favorably positioned to make a significant impact on sustainability efforts.
Where the opportunities are for IT in the sustainability domain.
How IT can make a significant strategic and tactical impact on corporate sustainability programs.
Q: Tell us about some of the end user cases you will highlight in your session?
A: There are several companies that provide us with good insights into best practices – despite the fact that sustainability management is a relatively new area of interest for many CIOs. For example, companies like Dell, Walmart, State Street Bank, and Dow Corning are all taking a leadership role in this arena, and I will share insights gleaned from their successes.
Q: What do you hope to take away from attending CA World 2010?
A: I’m looking forward to getting updated on key trends and developments at CA in general. I am particularly interested in developments in the sustainability arena, including the ecoSoftware offerings. I am also interested in strategic issues and trends that are likely to impact Information Technology organizations and how they should position themselves to respond effectively.
