Calling All Dog Enthusiasts! Canine Partners for Life Needs Your Volunteer Support!
Canine Partners for Life (CPL) trains and places certified service dogs with persons who have physical disabilities, mobility impairments, and seizure and cardiac disorders, to increase their independence and quality of life. By assisting its human partner with many physical tasks and providing constant companionship, a service dog can make the miracle of greater independence possible.
But CPL has a problem – a good problem. CPL has more puppies than ever, which is good because those puppies will eventually grow up and be trained to help individuals who rely on their companionship for increased independence and quality of life. But before they get to that point, these puppies need homes where volunteers will provide basic training. That’s where you come in!
How Individuals and Employers Can Help Through Volunteerism
Puppy home volunteers care for a CPL puppy starting at eight weeks and ending around fifteen months. The volunteers are responsible for housebreaking, crate training, teaching their puppy basic obedience commands, socializing it in public every day, attending regular vet visits, and participating in two training classes per month held at our facility in Cochranville, PA. Once the puppy is approximately fifteen months old, he/she will return to CPL for their second year of training. At the end of two years, the dog is placed with an individual who has a disability and will provide independence for many years to come.
Prior dog handling/training experience is not required. CPL staff will guide you through the process and are always available to help.

- Employers: Encourage employees to volunteer with Canine Partners for Life and support their work through a well-designed corporate philanthropy program designed to help CPL and accomplish your organization’s CSR goals. As Canine Partners for Life’s workplace giving partner, America’s Charities can help you design and implement a program centered on supporting their work - through workplace giving campaigns, employee fundraising, cause-focused signature programs, volunteerism, Dollars-for-Doers, In-Kind Giving and other employee engagement and philanthropic initiatives. The total cost to raise, train, place and provide lifetime support for each CPL dog is over $30,000, and no one is denied a dog if they’re not able to pay the $1,000–$3,000 requested donation. By uniting your employees around this cause through a donation campaign, your team could easily raise the money needed to provide support for a CPL dog.
