Not All Carbon Credits are Created Equal

In the last decade, the markets for carbon offsets have grown tremendously in scope breadth and rigor. Meanwhile, impacts of global warming — from stronger, wetter storms to higher temperatures — become ever more present in the day-to-day lives of normal people. This is a call to action. Buying voluntary offsets can and should be a regular part of the casual environmentalist’s lifestyle, just like recycling or carpooling. In this series sponsored by Cool Effect, we’ll explore the voluntary carbon market, how to participate and why now is the time for action.

FLIR Technology: ‘New’ Technology Shines a Camera on Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Seeing is often believing when it comes to addressing the impacts of climate change. As the effects of global warming become more noticeable, scientists tell us, public opinion has been shifting toward the importance of addressing climate change. While graphs and statistics make for good discussions, it’s often the “eyeball impact” that drives home the point that the earth’s atmosphere is being altered by the amount of carbon emissions we release.

Deconstructing Your Carbon Footprint: Save Your Sanity, Be the Change (Even If It’s Just a Little Bit)
I saw that look. You read the title of this article and rolled your eyes. Maybe you didn’t mean to, it’s just a physical manifestation of cognitive overload. LIVARI: How 3 Women are Leading the New Sustainable Fashion Movement
How many pairs of jeans do you own? How many t-shirts? How many pairs of shoes? A $3 trillion dollar industry employing roughly 60 million people, the fashion industry accounts for 2 percent of the world’s GDP and supports many adjacent industries, including agriculture, petroleum, mining and construction. It’s also an industry that historically hasn’t been very earth friendly. Boston Consulting Group estimates that the fashion industry is the fifth most polluting industry in the world. LIVARI, a new zero-waste, women-led, women-designed label has entered the fashion scene and is looking to change this one tonne of carbon pollution at a time.

How Individuals Move the Needle by Buying on Voluntary Carbon Markets
Global carbon dioxide emissions are projected to reach record highs in 2017 and again in 2018, according to estimates by the Global Carbon Project. This comes after a three-year period where emissions remained flat, which many scientists had hoped signaled a peak in climate warming emissions.
