CBRE Becomes a Fitwel Champion in the UK
Health and wellness at the forefront of responsible real estate
LONDON, November 4, 2019, /3BL Media/ - CBRE in the UK is now part of the Fitwel Champions programme. CBRE, the world’s largest commercial real estate services and investment firm, joins a group of industry leading companies committed to optimising buildings and places to promote health and wellness.
Fitwel is the world’s leading certification system for optimising building design and operations to support human health and well-being. It was originally created by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and U.S. General Services Administration, with the Center for Active Design selected as the operator. Fitwel Champions are committed to implementing the Fitwel Standard across their real estate portfolio.
“Occupiers are placing employee wellness at the centre of their business strategies and at the same time the real estate industry is eager to demonstrate the benefits of healthy buildings,” said Julie Townsend, Executive Director and Head of Environmental Consultancy, CBRE. “Becoming a Fitwel Champion in the UK allows us to strengthen our leadership in wellness and sustainability, and continue helping clients to create more efficient, productive and healthy buildings.”
Julie Townsend continued, “CBRE is able to take a holistic approach to business sustainability and develop strategies that create long-term benefits and value for clients. The Fitwel certification system will be applied on select projects and in turn, help to improve the wellness of building users and occupiers.
“The healthy real estate conversation resonates with occupiers, developers and investors, and industry-specific initiatives such as the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) means there’s more onus than ever on investors to demonstrate their responsible business credentials. Becoming a Fitwel Champion means that CBRE can offer clients an additional avenue to attaining Green Building Certification and it is also recognised under the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB).”
“As the first commercial real estate services and investment firm to become a Fitwel Champion in the United Kingdom, CBRE UK is at the forefront of advancing health and wellness at scale,” said Joanna Frank, CEO, Center for Active Design. “We are excited to support their leadership efforts as they apply Fitwel across a diverse portfolio to place health at the centre of workplace and residential projects.
In becoming a Fitwel Champion, CBRE has committed to applying the Fitwel certification across a minimum of six UK projects over the coming year, whilst also training additional in-house Fitwel Ambassadors (assessors) to support the integration of Fitwel’s strategies across an increased number of projects. CBRE is identifying suitable projects and consulting with clients concerning a range of assets across residential, office and retail property.
