(3BLMedia/theCSRfeed) NEW YORK CITY, NY - November 18, 2010 - Mindy S. Lubber, president of the non-profit group Ceres, was honored today by the United Nations and the Foundation for Social Change as one of the “World’s Top Leaders of Change” for her work in mobilizing leading companies to integrate environmental challenges into their core business strategies.
Lubber received the award at the two-day Global Conference for Social Change in New York. Lubber presented “best of class” case studies of how Ceres has helped companies, such as Nike and Levi Strauss & Co., address pressing business challenges such as climate change and global water scarcity. “I am honored to receive this award. It’s a testament that ‘business-as-usual’ isn’t doing the job in confronting the colossal challenges before us,” Lubber said. “Companies and investors, in tandem with policymakers and NGOs like Ceres, must come together to find bolder, more transformative solutions that build a sustainable global economy.” Lubber has served as the president of Ceres since 2003. She and her colleagues recently unveiled The 21st Century Corporation: The Ceres Roadmap for Sustainability, a powerful tool that businesses can use to integrate sustainability across their entire enterprise. Lubber also directs the Investor Network on Climate Risk (INCR), a network of 90 investors representing about $9 trillion in assets that coordinates U.S. investor responses to the financial risks and opportunities of climate change. The Global Conference for Social Change, hosted by the Foundation for Social Change and the United Nations Office for Partnerships, recognizes visionary, inspirational leaders, who through their actions exemplify how leadership, creativity and innovation can engage in initiatives that solve social problems. Other award winners were Coca-Cola (clean water initiative), Nike (sustainability & education), Calvert Investments (social responsible investing), Stonyfield Farms (sustainability), Walmart (sustainability) and Reebok (social innovation). About CeresCeres is a leading coalition of investors, environmental groups, and other public interest organizations working with companies to address sustainability challenges such as water scarcity and climate change.
