Chevrolet Brings First Electric Vehicle Charging Stations To Pepperdine University

December 4, 2014 /3BL Media/ - Chevrolet, one of the world’s largest automotive brands, has partnered with Pepperdine University, named one of the most environmentally responsible colleges in the country by Princeton Review, and CBS EcoMedia’s EcoAd program to install Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations on campus and provide free electricity for EV drivers.
As a result of this unique partnership, Chevrolet’s funding will bring three Level 2 (240-volt) EV charging stations to two separate locations at Pepperdine University’s main campus. Chevrolet’s financial support will cover installation costs and provide three full years of free electricity to power the growing number of plug-in cars on campus.
These are the first EV charging stations to be installed on campus and will enable students, staff, faculty and visitors to recharge their plug-in cars while supporting Pepperdine’s robust sustainability initiatives. Pepperdine has actively incorporated a variety of environmental responsiveness and awareness programs campus-wide since 1972.
Chevrolet has long believed in being a responsible steward of the environment. The brand is not only focused on building cars that help consumers reduce their own personal carbon footprint, but also in finding sustainable ways of doing business. Its “Ecologic” initiative helps to reduce environmental impact throughout the stages of a car’s life, from manufacturing to driving to recycling. Additionally, through a separate partnership with CBS EcoMedia last year, Chevrolet funded EV charging stations at two nearby California State Parks – Malibu Creek State Park and Leo Carrillo State Beach – allowing Malibu residents and visitors a free charge while they explore the parks.
A special ribbon-cutting celebration was held today at the site of two newly installed, Chevrolet-funded charging stations at the Seaver Visitor Lot on the Pepperdine University campus. A Chevy Volt and Chevy Spark EV were available for guests to experience the thrill of driving an electric vehicle. The celebration was hosted by Dave Barthmuss, West Coast Communications Group Manager, General Motors; Andrew K. Benton, President, Pepperdine University; and Eric Kern, Local Sales Manager, CBS Los Angeles
“Pepperdine University’s environmental initiatives align with Chevrolet’s commitment to expanding the adoption of electric vehicles,” said Barthmuss. “We are excited to provide the students, faculty, staff and visitors of Pepperdine University with the option of receiving a free charge courtesy of Chevrolet.”

Pepperdine University will benefit from approximately $8,250 in costs savings per year, and it’s estimated that 16,524 kg of CO2 will be reduced as a result of this project.
