Children Teach Lilly Volunteer Valuable Lessons
by David Marbaugh
Minnie Guizano was raised to appreciate the value of a good education—both inside and outside the classroom. “My mom, a teacher, told us that the things you don’t learn in school you learn from traveling.”
Her love for travel and a passion to teach and give back to others motivated Minnie to apply for the Connecting Hearts Abroad program. “When I found out that I had been randomly selected as one of the lucky ambassadors for 2012, I was thrilled and thankful for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
Minnie volunteered with a government program that serves children from some of the poorest neighborhoods in Peru. Single with no kids, Minnie was tasked with teaching and potty training 15 one-year-olds.
