CITGO Leads Cleanup Effort at Camp Aranzazu
Restoration effort part of broader CITGO commitment to health and well-being initiatives
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas, Sept. 8, 2015 /3BL Media/ – Volunteers from CITGO Petroleum Corporation recently led a cleanup at Camp Aranzazu, a therapeutic recreational camp for children and adults with special needs.
“Camp Aranzazu is dedicated to enriching the lives of children and adults with chronic illnesses and disabilities by providing them with unique camping, environmental studies and retreat experiences,” said Jennifer Janecek, development associate with Camp Aranzazu. “We now have 103 acres of land but only one facilities person, and so without the aid of volunteers, Camp Aranzazu would have to find additional funding for the expanding property’s upkeep. The support from CITGO on this cleanup effort frees us up to focus on our campers’ needs and improves the overall experience for everyone who passes through our gates.”
For the past four years, CITGO and its employees have pitched in to assist with the camp’s cleanup efforts. This year, volunteers will help with everything from clearing brush to writing welcome notes for the campers.
“Conservation and inclusion are core values for CITGO,” said CITGO Corpus Christi Refinery Vice President and General Manager Art Klein. “We want to ensure that all members of the communities we operate in can enjoy natural treasures like the grounds of Camp Aranzazu.”
Support of Camp Aranzazu is just one of the many ways that CITGO has demonstrated its deep and abiding concern for the health and wellbeing of all people. CITGO is a significant contributors to community programs and initiatives throughout Corpus Christi. In 2014, CITGO employees in Corpus Christi volunteered more than 2,940 hours of their personal time to local charities like United Way, Charlie's Place, Muscular Dystrophy Association, The Miracle League, Catholic Charities, the Special Olympics and a variety of environmental and preservation initiatives, such as the revitalization of the Gateway to Corpus Christi, Hans and Pat Suter Park and Adopt-A-Beach Clean Up. In 2015, the CITGO Corpus Christi Refinery is celebrating 80 years of operations.
