Climax Molybdenum Co., a Freeport-McMoRan Company, Receives Two Awards for Environmental Reclamation

March 31, 2015 /3BL Media/ - The Colorado Division of Reclamation Mining and Safety awarded Climax Molybdenum Co. two prestigious awards for reclamation.

Bryce Romig, Environmental Manager-Henderson, received the 2014 Jim Pendleton Mined Land Reclamation Award, and Climax mine received the 2014 Excellence in Hard Rock Reclamation Award for the Company’s construction and operation of the Climax Molybdenum water treatment plant.

Romig was given the award for his contributions and dedication to reclamation and environmental protection of the Climax mine and surrounding area during the last 20 years, including projects worked on while Climax was closed. His work with establishing the use of biosolids as a soil amendment was one of the projects mentioned.

The Pendleton award recognizes individuals for significant contributions to the reclamation of mined lands in Colorado. It honors the memory of Dr. James A. Pendleton, a well-regarded regulator, mentor and geologist, and the principal scientist with the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety.

Ray Lazuk, Environmental Manager-Climax, accepted the 2014 Excellence in Hard Rock Reclamation Award on behalf of the Company. The award recognized the site’s outstanding environmental protection work, especially the construction and operation of a $200 million water treatment plant that ensures the protection of the Tenmile Creek.
