The Collective Impact of Giving Back Together
VMware people believe in a culture of possibilities. When people come together with open minds and humble hearts, they spark illuminating ideas and become catalysts for change. From developing disruptive technology to being active stewards in local communities, VMware employees are passionate about defying constraints and propelling positive momentum for a brighter future. It is because of VMware people’s commitment and contributions to the community that VMware was recently ranked #14 on Best Workplaces for Giving Back by Fortune and Great Place to Work.
The VMware Foundation’s 2016 Collective Impact infographic reflects how employees contributed their time, talents, and resources to the causes closest to their hearts. In 2016, 16,948 VMware employees worldwide (that’s 85 percent of VMware’s community) joined the VMware Foundation in giving back by supporting more than 7,400 nonprofits in 100 countries. Individual actions matter, and when you add up VMware people’s individual contributions, you’ll find a global network of giving. This is the power of collective impact.
For VMware people, Service Learning extends beyond the traditional volunteer experience. By reflecting on their experiences, people are able to learn and grow through service: “Helping others changed my mindset about what really matters in life,” says Earl H., senior technical account manager at VMware. “I worked side by side with a veteran to build his home. I did not realize this small amount of time from my life could have such a big impact on someone else’s life.”
VMware’s culture of service empowers people to be active stewards of what matters in their communities and around the world: “Mobility changed the way Surgicorps provides access to free healthcare,” says Andrew B., director of strategic alliances at VMware AirWatch. “Combining my Service Learning with AirWatch’s product donation allows Surgicorps to focus on the most important thing—the patient.”
“We believe everyone has something to contribute, and that each one of us has what it takes to make change happen,” says Jessamine Chin, VMware Foundation director. “After all, big things have small beginnings.”
The VMware Foundation exists to amplify employees’ personal passions for the causes closest to their hearts, and 90 percent of employees agree that VMware provides meaningful opportunities to give back. VMware is committed to having a net positive impact in the world and is proud to report on its progress in this interactive infographic.
