Composting at Vigilant Global: 1 Year Later

Since starting a composting initiative in March 2015, Vigilant Global has collected a total of 18,140L of organic matter.

Vigilant Global has always had a recycling program in place, but decided that it wasn’t enough for a company with a strong commitment to improving the community where we live and work. Since many boroughs in Montreal have started composting initiatives at the residential level, we were happy to bring composting to work as well.

Kicking off the compost program with a “Lunch and Learn”, featuring guest speakers from Compost Montreal, the Vigilant Global office was decked out in brand new composting bins located next to every garbage. Signage with friendly composting reminders are located throughout the office.

Although changing behavior can be a  challenge, no matter what the scale, teaming up with Compost Montreal has allowed the company to educate employees on the long-term benefits, and composting is now second nature. The organic material picked up at our office is mixed with leaves and branches collected by the city during park maintenance. The result? Agricultural grade compost that can be used safely and effectively to grow new food.
