Conflict Minerals Auditing Checklist Distributed After Webinar

Attendees of Source Intelligence’s Feb. 5th “Survival Guide to a Conflict Minerals Audit” webinar, will now receive a conflict minerals auditing checklist.

December 31, 2013 marked the end of the first reporting period for the SEC’s Section 1502 Conflict Minerals Disclosure Rule and the beginning of reporting and auditing concerns. 

The rule requires publicly-held companies to disclose whether their products contain conflict minerals as defined by the law: tin, tantalum, tungsten or gold (3TG) originating from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and specific adjoining countries. 

The first report, covering calendar year 2013, is due to the SEC by May 31, 2014. The SEC and Government Accountability Office estimate that approximately 6,000 issuers and 280,000 non-issuer companies will be directly or indirectly impacted by the rule.

Kristen brings extensive experience in sustainability reporting, specifically focused on social impact. She leads Deloitte's efforts in monitoring conflict minerals, engaging in recognized industry-led initiatives regarding this topic to understand leading practices and company approaches. Kristen also brings a unique variety of insights to this regulatory reporting requirement from her previous area of focus on Regulatory and Public Policy matters for the firm. Kristen represents Deloitte in support of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) U.S. Focal Point., serves as a member of the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) Advisory Council, the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) working group, Global Initiative for Sustainability Ratings (GISR) pilot working group and the AICPA Sustainability and Conflict Minerals Task Forces. Dr. Jennifer Kraus, Chief Scientific Officer and Co-Founder, has over 25 years of experience providing multi-disciplinary strategic environmental, health and safety services to customers in the US, Mexico, Canada, and Central and South America. Prior to co-founding Source Intelligence®, Dr. Kraus was President of Global Environmental Consulting Company, Inc. (GECCo, Inc.), a consulting practice based in San Diego, CA. Dr. Kraus also served as an associate with Dames & Moore, environmental manager for General Dynamics Electronics Division, and safety engineer with Litton Guidance and Control Systems. 

Dr. Kraus is a BEAC Certified Professional Environmental Auditor with specialties in environmental compliance and IS) 14001. She was also recently selected as an equivalence process expert for the global social compliance program. Dr. Kraus is a former board member of the Good Neighbor Environmental Board, a congressional advisory committee on environmental and infrastructure issues along the US-Mexico Border; the San Diego Regional Water Quality Control Board; and the San Diego Industrial Environmental Association. Dr. Kraus completed her doctoral studies in public health, epidemiology at the UCSD School of Medicine and the San Diego State Graduate School of Public Health; she received her master's degree in public health from the UCLA Graduate School of Public Health and her bachelor's degree in biology from Princeton University.
