ENERGY STAR-certified LED bulbs last longer and use up to 90 percent less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs.

JACKSON, Mich., March 31, 2017 /3BL Media/ -- Consumers Energy announced today that it will provide up to 150,000 high-efficiency LED bulbs to Michigan families through food banks.

Consumers Energy will make the contribution as part of its “Light the Moment with ENERGY STAR Buy a Bulb, Give a Bulb” campaign, which starts Saturday and runs through April. For every LED bulb that’s purchased at participating retailers, the energy provider will donate an LED bulb to food banks through Feeding America West Michigan.

“This effort is part of our commitment to the communities and people we serve throughout the year,” said Theresa Schmidt, Consumers Energy’s residential energy efficiency operations director. “Energy-efficient LED bulbs will provide an immediate benefit for households, reducing costs and allowing them to put their money toward other expenses.”

Consumers Energy helped communities through another “Buy a Bulb” campaign in October, donating 75,000 LED bulbs. In addition, the energy provider has continued to provide nonprofit organizations, houses of worship and historic buildings through Michigan with energy-efficient upgrades that reduce their costs.

In all, Michigan homes and businesses have saved over $1 billion on their energy bills since 2009 through Consumers Energy’s energy efficiency programs.

Consumers Energy, Michigan’s largest utility, is the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy (NYSE: CMS), providing natural gas and electricity to 6.7 million of the state’s 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties.
