Continua is ON Semiconductor’s Newest Affinity Network Group for LGBTQ+ Employees

ON Semiconductor’s newest affinity group for LGBTQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning and/or Queer and beyond) employees and their allies, Continua, launched last week. The name Continua was selected because the word stems from Continuum, which is a whole that consists of many pieces that vary slightly.

This group will be a global source of advocacy, networking and education for all employees on LGBTQ+ topics. Continua will also work to create inclusive workplaces around the world through open conversations, updated policies and practices, global partnerships, customer, supplier and stakeholder engagement, and support programs for the unique needs of LGBTQ+ employees and their families.

Did You Know?

  • One-fifth of LGBTQ+ people in the United States and European Union have experienced discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity when applying for jobs, according to ILGA-Europe. LGBTQ+ people of color are more likely to experience this type of discrimination than white LGBTQ+ people, according to Catalyst.org.
  • Seventy-four countries have national laws that protect people from discrimination in employment because of sexual orientation. The United States is not one of these countries, according to Catalyst.org.
  • Even in the most accepting countries, by law or otherwise, almost half of LGBTQ+ workers are closeted in the workplace, according to Catalyst.org.
  • A quarter of LGBTQ employees report staying in a job due to a LGBTQ+ inclusive work environment, while 10% of LGBTQ+ employees have left a job because the work environment did not accept LGBTQ+ people, according to Catalyst.org.

Continua is committed to raising brand awareness inside and outside of the LGBTQ+ community, and will open doors and create new opportunities for exposure to ON Semiconductor innovations, products and services.

“We look forward to working with all of our stakeholders and employees to foster a welcoming and inclusive work environment in all of our global ON Semiconductor facilities,” said Brianna Rice, Continua Committee Chair and Ethics Program Manager.

Continua joins ON Semiconductor’s other affinity network groups: Women’s Leadership Initiative, STEM UP (science, technology, engineering and math for underrepresented populations), Cultivate, Employee Activity Committee and B.E.N. (Black Employee Network). The primary goals of our affinity network groups are to focus on recruitment, retention, community partnerships and business development. Charters for all the affinity groups align seamlessly with our core values of respect, integrity and initiative as well as Diversity & Inclusion framework.
