Cracking the Code Keeping Girls Out of Computer Science

I’ve managed community investment programs for Time Warner Cable, a technology company whose major philanthropic priority is connecting kids to STEM through hands-on education, for five years.

During this time, we have built robots, rockets, tornadoes and bikes.  In collaboration with famous athletes, we have demonstrated to kids that there would be no NBA without air velocity and no MLB without statistics. 

We have engaged nearly a million kids in STEM after-school education programs and persuaded another million adults to stand behind them.  We have taught kids to hypothesize, to think and to invent.

In spite of many great outcomes, there is one code we have not cracked:  the one keeping women out of computer science.
