Cradle to Cradle Certification Consultant to Partner with Taiwan Textile Industry Leaders
MBDC Forges Partnership with Taiwan Textile Research Institute
(3BLMedia/theCSRfeed) CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - November 2, 2010 - McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC), creators of one of the world’s foremost protocols for evaluating and improving products for a multi-attribute conception of sustainable design, has entered into a groundbreaking partnership with the Taiwan Textile Research Institute (TTRI), a leading research and development institute for textile technology and services. For the first time, Cradle to Cradle® Certification will be applied to textiles manufactured in Taiwan and other locations across Asia and used worldwide. The partnership hopes to create more environmentally positive materials and processes, and in turn make safer textiles available to apparel companies around the world.
“By helping us apply Cradle to Cradle protocol to materials at their sources, the Taiwan Textile Research Institute is creating the connections necessary for creating a continuous loop of healthy and safe materials,” said Jay Bolus, Vice President of Technical Operations for MBDC. “We are honored to be working with such a forward-thinking organization and look ahead to a long-term partnership.”
TTRI will act as a valuable source of sustainability outreach to and training of Taiwanese manufacturers as well as manufacturers in China and other locations across Asia, research for the ongoing improvement of Cradle to Cradle® Certification, and testing of textiles applying for certification. In addition, MBDC will train TTRI to help manufacturers complete the certification process, as well as conduct material assessments and facility auditing of textile mills and suppliers, with the goal of TTRI experts enhancing their certification services over time.
“This agreement represents the first time Taiwan’s textile industry has made serious steps toward understanding Cradle to Cradle® Certification,” said Dr. C.C.Bai, President of Taiwan Textile Research Institute and “Our work with MBDC represents an opportunity for us to promote a concept and system for combining efficiency and effectiveness in a way that benefits both business and the environment,” said Dr. S.F. Chiu, Director of the Department of Testing and Certification for TTRI.
