CSX Employees Give Back “Beyond Our Rails” at Service Day in Parkersburg, W.Va.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – October 10, 2016 /3BL Media/ – Furthering CSX’s commitment to actively support the communities served by the company, employee volunteers were joined by national service partners City Year, Action for Healthy Kids and Arbor Day Foundation to spend Saturday morning volunteering on school improvement projects at Emerson Elementary School.
Around 100 volunteers created an outdoor classroom; installed a kickball field; painted the basketball court; and painted murals and graphics in the hallways, gym, cafeteria and playground area. Students at Parkersburg High School also practiced their media production skills by documenting the day with video, which will be released on social media later this fall.
"It's a great moment in our school's history where we are able to come together as a community with the focus of promoting nutrition and physical activity,” said Tabatha Efaw, principal at Emerson Elementary School.
CSX has strong ties to Parkersburg, where the company operates a major rail yard. Saturday’s event is one stop on the company’s tour of service days across its rail network in the Eastern U.S. to unite national service partners and local organizations to give back at schools.
“Our employees are passionate about creating a positive influence to make the communities where we live and work safer, healthier and more environmentally friendly,” said Jason Bishop, Manager, Community Affairs and Safety at CSX. “We’re proud to have the opportunity to invest in these students’ bright futures by improving their school and creating more opportunities to be active and learn outdoors.”
