CSX Employees & Volunteers Host Day of Service in Philadelphia
October 17, 2016 /3BL Media/ - As a part of the company’s tour of volunteer service events across its network this fall, many CSX employees gave up their Saturday morning to volunteer at Cook-Wissahickon Elementary School in Philadelphia, Pa. They were joined by the company’s national service partners City Year and Action for Healthy Kids, along with teachers, students and families from the school.
Together, volunteers revitalized the basketball court, landscaped the outdoor area and added new benches, and gave the gym and cafeteria a new fresh painting.
In addition, CSX partnered with the Philadelphia Horticultural Society and the Arbor Day Foundation to plant 45 riparian trees along Wissahickon Creek and 16 trees at Cook-Wissahickon Elementary School.
"We are always excited when the community shows their support for our school," said Cook-Wissahickon Principal Michael Lowe. “Our children will come to school with a learning environment that is a little bit brighter because of Saturday's efforts!"
CSX has strong ties in Philadelphia, with three major facilities and more than 200 employees currently based in the metro area. Last year, CSX hosted a service day at D. Newlin Fell Elementary School.
“Being part of Team CSX means giving back,” said Steve Salyers, Terminal Manger, CSX. “We are proud to get the opportunity to serve our community – both at volunteer events like this where we join with our neighbors and nonprofit partners, and also all year long by moving the goods that are essential to our economy.”
