Culture Plays a Key Role in Attracting Early Career Tech Talent
MILWAUKEE, May 11, 2022 /3BL Media/ - As the competition for software and tech talent continues, culture has become an increasingly important factor in attracting and retaining diverse candidates. Early career professionals in particular value a workplace that not only aligns with their values, but also supports career growth. Yonas Habte, an IT associate at Rockwell Automation (NYSE: ROK), exemplifies that thinking.
Growing up in Seattle, Habte—a double major in information systems and marketing—assumed he’d start his career at one of the nearby tech giants headquartered on the West Coast. When he landed an internship with Milwaukee-based Rockwell, his career plans took an unexpected turn.
Habte, who works remotely from Seattle, found that Rockwell’s Leadership Development Program aligned with his tech career aspiration. Working within the intersection of information technology and operations technology was perfect for someone with aspirations to grow as an innovator.
“College prepares you for work, but only work can prepare you for your career,” Habte said. “I can be good at something when I join a team, but this early in my career, I will only get better if people are invested in my growth. Each step of the way, my teams have shown me every day that they care not only about what I bring to the team, but what they can offer to me.”
The program’s six-month rotations, Habte said, are just one indicator of how much Rockwell values early career development and the commitment to attract, retain, and develop diverse talent.
“I appreciate a company culture that invests in eager learners who can apply new ways of thinking,” Habte said. “It’s a long-term approach rather than simply trying to fill positions. Your betterment is a priority. I am surrounded by some of the smartest people I’ve ever met who are expanding what’s possible for the world, and who freely share their knowledge and perspective. I don’t know where else I could have gained so much in so little time. Here, it’s more than feeling welcome. I have a true sense of belonging.”
