Cummins Cogeneration System Keeps Greenhouse Growing in Belgium
Belgian-based greenhouse company Varegro is using a Cummins HSK78G gas generator to power its facility in Oostrozebeke, West Flanders, making it the first in the world to be installed in a greenhouse environment.
The HSK78G generator is part of an ultra-efficient Combined Heat and Power system at the greenhouse that turns waste heat into productive energy. In an energy intensive greenhouse environment, its total return is greater than 100% and Varegro can use this dependable power source to flexibly meet its energy needs. The electricity produced can be used for lighting, the heat produced by the generator for heating and the exhaust gases are cleaned and used for fertilization.
