Deloitte and USOC Present 'Team USA Road Show: It's Your Race, Take the Lead'
September 3, 2013 /3BL Media/ - Deloitte is teaming up with the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) for the fourth consecutive year to bring world-renowned athletes to 10 college campuses across the country. During the "Team USA Road Show: It's Your Race, Take the Lead," Olympic and Paralympic athletes, who are gearing up for the Sochi 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, will share their perspectives on leadership in action and the importance of commitment in achieving goals.
Kicking off September 3, the six-week roadshow will feature such athletes as Olympic gold medalist Evan Lysacek (figure skating), Olympic medalist Elana Meyers (bobsled), Olympic gold medalist Shani Davis (speed skating) and Paralympic gold medalist Alana Nichols (alpine skiing and wheelchair basketball). Each will share their personal journey as well as the obstacles they faced on their paths to "going for the gold."
"The 'Team USA Road Show' demonstrates Deloitte's focus on strengths-based leadership and the high performance culture many students today seek," said Patty Pogemiller, director, Deloitte Services LP, and talent acquisition leader. "Olympians and Paralympians are exceptional talents who stretch themselves, thrive as leaders and turn passion into reality. These qualities make them strong ambassadors of our culture and ideal motivators for students to ignite their own careers."
Deloitte plans to hire approximately 17,000 professionals this fiscal year, including about 7,000 campus hires (full-time/interns) from about 400 U.S. campuses, making Deloitte one of the largest campus recruiters in the country. Deloitte's approach to recruiting focuses on identifying talent early and building deep relationships with students to help fill the talent pipeline from campuses across the country. In addition to the "Team USA Road Show," Deloitte does this through various initiatives, including the Deloitte National Leadership Conference, which consists of career development workshops for students, and "Maximum Impact," an annual alternative spring break program that incorporates skills-based learning to help communities in need.
"U.S. Olympians, Paralympians and hopefuls personify drive, passion and leadership many of the same traits that define career success," said Lisa Baird, chief marketing officer, USOC. "We are thrilled that Deloitte showcases these great athletes, and through the 'Team USA Road Show,' engages students as they plan the next step in their educational and professional careers."
As the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic athletes follow their dreams to Sochi, Deloitte's sponsorship provides the USOC with professional services and insight to help give Team USA the resources and support it needs to compete. Deloitte has been a proud supporter of the USOC since 2009 and extended its sponsorship last year to serve as the Official Professional Services Sponsor of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Teams through 2020.
