The DetermiNation Party at the Rock ‘n Roll Chicago Half Marathon
By David Pittman
Last Sunday, Team DetermiNation crashed the party at the Rock ‘n Roll Chicago Half Marathon, and as is always the case with DetermiNators, they were a huge crowd pleaser. But more than that, they were a smash hit and doing what DetermiNators do best: honoring people they love and raising money to kick cancer’s ass. Our 160 runners raised over $240,000! According to the special name tag that was given to DNation athletes at our private gear check, that money is enough to:
- provide 80,000 hours of toll-free access to the American Cancer Society 24-hour hotline, or
- give 769 patients battling cancer eight roundtrip rides to their treatment through the Road toRecovery program, or
- enable 1,200 women to attend a “Look Good, Feel Better” consultation where they can learn techniques on how to manage they many physical changes brought on by chemotherapy, or
- cover prescriptions for pain and nausea medicine for 4,800 people who would otherwise do without
That’s what our athletes provided for people that they probably don’t know and will likely never meet. But most of them had a more personal reason for running with DetermiNation. I’ll let them show you who they were running for…
