A Dialogue with Gretchen Hancock of GE on Science-Based Sustainability Goal-Setting (Part 2)
#SustyGoals 3: GE's Gretchen Hancock on Context-Based Goal-Setting (Part 2)
In part one of this dialogue, #NewMetrics channel co-curator Bill Baue and Judy Sandford, Senior Strategist for Sustainability Communications at Addison, discussed GE's approach to accountability for, and reporting on, its worldwide carbon footprint with GE's Resource Optimization Manager, Gretchen Hancock. Here, Hancock explains GE's approach to its next round of goal-setting for GHG emissions, acknowledging the utility of context-based metrics that allow for economic growth while requiring emissions reductions (thereby enabling decoupling). As well, Hancock addresses how GE can use its influence to encourage upstream suppliers and downstream customers to reduce their emissions as well.
