Dr. Carol Adams Named Global Director of Standards for AA1000 Standards Series
(3BL Media) London – September 25, 2012 – AccountAbility is pleased to announce that Dr. Carol Adams, an expert in sustainability reporting and change management, will assume the role as Director of the Secretariat for the AA1000 Standards Series, effective October. Dr. Adams has a long history with the AA1000 Standards Series as a non-executive director, council member and member of the writing team of the original AA1000 standard.
“I am delighted to take up the role of Global Director of Standards at AccountAbility,” Dr. Carol Adams said. “I have long been passionate about the AA1000 Standards, their thought leadership and the benefit they provide to users, many of whom have been involved in their development. I look forward to working with the new Standards Board on standards strategy and development.”
Dr. Adams will focus initially on developing a strategy for the independent AA1000 Standards through broad engagement with a diverse range of stakeholders, and establishing further working groups and with the guidance of the Standards Board. She will work to expand the range of stakeholders who contribute to, and benefit from, the Standards and ensure that the value of the Standards to organizations committed to accountability and sustainability is effectively communicated.
This announcement follows the considerable progress that has made towards developing a strong platform to advance the leadership of the AA1000 Standards. Building on the work of the Interim Standards Board and many stakeholders who have worked to develop the standards, the independent Nominating Committee is in the process of selecting the new Standards Board. AccountAbility is working to further enhance the leadership of the Standards Secretariat, which is charged with supporting the Board and Working Groups in the overall stewardship of the Standards.
“This is an important moment for the AA1000 Standards and reinforces AccountAbility’s commitment to ensuring that the Standards have the leadership, resources and governance to lead independently for the public good,” AccountAbility Chief Executive Officer Sunil A. Misser said. “More work needs to be done which will be the focus of our plan in the months ahead. On behalf of all of us at AccountAbility, I’d like to thank all stakeholders who have guided us along the path of upholding the content, credibility and independence of the AA1000 Standards.”
This announcement follows the resignation of Kurt Ramin, who previously held the position of Global Director of Standards.
“Kurt brought technical leadership in charting a way forward for the AA1000 Series,” Mr. Misser said. “We are very appreciative of Kurt’s contribution to the Standards and look forward to his ongoing support.” For more information see www.accountability.org
