Duke Energy Donates $20,000 to Maryneal Volunteer Fire Department in Texas
CHARLOTTE, N.C., February 2, 2021 /3BL Media/ – Duke Energy Foundation and Duke Energy Renewables have awarded the Maryneal Volunteer Fire Department with a $20,000 grant to help maintain the critical safety services it provides to the local businesses and residents of Maryneal, Texas, and its surrounding area.
“These funds will enable Maryneal Volunteer Fire Department to obtain the equipment necessary to enhance the fire suppression capabilities of our team of fire volunteers,” said Buster Muncy, assistant fire chief of Maryneal Volunteer Fire Department. “Our goal is to obtain a larger truck with 1,200-gallon capacity of water along with a pump and hoses necessary to distribute water on woodland fires in our response area. We are proud and grateful to partner with Duke Energy on this endeavor.”
Wildfires, flash flooding and community emergencies take a heavy toll on fire and rescue equipment. The grant provided by Duke Energy will go toward equipment upgrades, maintenance and new services and tools the Maryneal Volunteer Fire Department needs to ensure the safety of the community.
“Safety is a top priority for us,” said Chris Fallon, president of Duke Energy Renewables. “We’re proud to be a part of this community and help fund the equipment and services that will enable the Maryneal Volunteer Fire Department to continue to maintain the safety of area residents and businesses.”
Maryneal is home to one of Duke Energy Renewables newest wind energy sites – the 182-MW Maryneal Windpower project currently under construction. It also owns and operates the 151-MW Sweetwater Windpower project and the 200-MW Holstein Solar site both in Nolan County, Texas.
The Maryneal Volunteer Fire Department serves Nolan County and participates in mutual aid with fire departments in Fisher, Mitchell, Taylor and Coke counties.
