Duke Energy & Piedmont Natural Gas Volunteers Build Outdoor Learning Lab
During Duke Energy In Action Month, employees across the company volunteer on dozens of projects
More than 100 Duke Energy and Piedmont Natural Gas volunteers spent the day at Governors’ Village STEM Academy in north Charlotte on May 10 to build an outdoor learning lab.
Made possible by a $100,000 grant from Duke Energy, Governors’ Village students now have a dynamic new place where teachers can lead exciting and engaging outdoor experiential lessons.
This project was spearheaded by Out Teach, a national nonprofit that coaches and inspires teachers to unlock student performance with the power of outdoor experiential learning. Duke Energy teamed up with Out Teach in 2018 to build a similar outdoor learning garden at Walter G. Byers, a Title I school in Charlotte.
Not even the rain could dampen the spirits of the volunteers, who worked all day to ensure Governors’ Village students have a garden they can be proud of.
The volunteer project was just one of dozens of volunteer projects that Duke Energy employees are carrying out this month as part of their Duke Energy In Action volunteer campaign.
