eBay UK Raises £105,000 in 24 Hours for Youth Charity
Benefitting The Prince’s Trust, the money raised will help provide training, mentoring and funding for budding young entrepreneurs.
At eBay, we strive to create opportunity for all. Supporting entrepreneurs and small businesses in communities all over the world is central to our mission.
That’s why we’ve recently entered into a partnership to help raise funds and awareness for youth charity The Prince’s Trust. Through its Enterprise programme the charity works with 18-30 year old budding entrepreneurs to turn their ideas into a business reality by providing them with training, mentoring, funding and a variety of other resources.
“We are delighted to partner with The Prince’s Trust to help young entrepreneurs gain access to vital tools and funding to kick start their own businesses. The next generation are the future of our economy, and with over 200,000 small businesses already trading on eBay – we want to grow this number by focusing on empowering 18-30 year olds in need of help and support, to start and run businesses in the way they want to,” said Vice President of eBay UK Rob Hattrell.
On October 9th, 2018 shoppers bought the things they love on ebay.co.uk and for every item purchased eBay UK donated 5p to The Prince’s Trust. In just 24 hours customers helped raise over £105,000 in support of the charity. With those funds The Prince’s Trust could fund nearly 2,000 hours of expert mentoring that helps struggling enterprises become successful businesses.
Alongside the Give Day, several of The Prince’s Trust celebrity ambassadors provided money-can’t-buy experiences and memorabilia to be auctioned off with 100% of proceeds going to charity. This included tickets to the final of The Voice UK and a meet & greet with judge Emma Willis, a wine and cheese tasting with renowned TV presenter Philip Schofield and two tickets to the final sold out NFL London game featuring the Philadelphia Eagles vs. Jacksonville Jaguars.
As part of our partnership we also welcomed some of The Prince’s Trust young entrepreneurs onto our global marketplace. These young people have launched a business with the Trust’s support and are selling unique products like soy wax candles, organic skincare and home decor - all perfect items for the holiday gifting season. For every purchase from the Tomorrow’s Store on eBay, eBay UK has committed a further £5.00 donation through the end of the year.
