Ecocentricity Blog: I Did a Thing

So this is weird. Writing this particular blog post kinda feels like I’ve put on a neon yellow jump suit with a Flava Flav clock around my neck while I carry around a boombox on my shoulder blaring the song “Watch Me” by Silentó on repeat. Side note – I’m pretty sure that sentence has never before been written or uttered in the history of human existence.

I’m really proud though, and I promise this isn’t about me. It’s about Ray Anderson, the company he created, and the Foundation that bears his name. It’s about advancing environmental sustainability as much as we possibly can.

I am incredibly grateful to my Trustees for enabling me to do this particular thing. I’m just as grateful to my wife for shouldering the parenting load even more than usual last summer. She’s a superstar.

The thing I did was write a book. Well, the second half of a book to be more precise. My grandfather wrote the first half, which he and Interface released as Mid-Course Correction in 1998. In that book, Ray sketched out his vision for the prototypical company of the 21st century. In adding to it, I bring the Interface story present and explore what it will take to create the prototypical economy of the 21st century.

We strongly believed that Ray’s book had another life to live, and we were honored and grateful that Chelsea Green agreed. They are republishing it with my new content under the name Mid-Course Correction Revisited in May.

I’d be eternally grateful if you’d check out this video for the book. I’d be grateful for TWO eternities if you’d consider pre-ordering the book and sharing with anyone you think would be interested in it.

Our Foundation’s most important task is to continue sharing the Ray Anderson story, thereby inspiring a new generation of business leaders to embrace his vision for a sustainable society. I’m proud that this book helps to accomplish that goal. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. Okay, that’s it – I’m putting the boombox down now. and sharing with anyone you think would be interested in it.   Our Foundation’s most important task is to continue sharing the Ray Anderson story, thereby inspiring a new generation of business leaders to embrace his vision for a sustainable society.
