Engaging Employees on the Environment

MetLife’s commitment to the environment is a source of pride for our employees, many of whom participate in MetLife environmental efforts throughout the year.

In 2017, MetLife mobilized more than 10,000 employees through Our Green Impact, our company-wide program to empower employees to reduce environmental impact at the office, at home and in our communities. Employees learn from sustainability experts through our quarterly speaker series, share tips through newsletters and discussion boards, and volunteer in their communities throughout the year. In 2017, MetLife employees and their families contributed more than 1,000 hours to park and beach clean-ups, tree plantings and other environmental service projects.

A signature initiative each year is the EcoChallenge, a two-week competition encouraging the adoption of eco-friendly habits, such as biking to work, eating locally sourced food and using less water at home. In 2017, 1,500 employees across 26 countries participated in the EcoChallenge and conserved the equivalent of 21,000 pounds of CO2 and 55,000 gallons of water, and kept 5,000 plastic bottles from going to the landfill.
