Fairview 4H Club and SCA Complete Plastic Cap Collection Totaling 500 Pounds – to be Recycled into Park Bench for Local Park
Members of the Fairview 4H Club met in Black Creek, Wisconsin, on April 3 to conduct a final sort of the last batch of plastic caps collected for a sustainability project. SCA, a global hygiene and forest products company with two sites and 900 employees in the Neenah-Menasha area, has partnered with the 4H Club of Black Creek on this initiative to collect and sort plastic caps. The two groups have reached their goal, and will send 500 pounds of collected caps to Green Tree Plastics in exchange for a park bench made of recycled plastics. Plastic caps are not recyclable with the comingled recyclable items in the tri-county area, so this effort is keeping caps out of the landfill.
Since 2014, SCA employees have been collecting caps, and the 4H Club joined the effort in 2016. The pallet of 500 pounds of caps will be shipped by one of SCA’s trucking carriers to the Evansville, Indiana location of Green Tree Plastics where they will pick up the park bench for the 4H Club in early May. SCA will continue to collect caps with the goal of exchanging them for the next piece of equipment, keeping all of these caps out of the landfill and supporting a smaller ecological footprint.
