Fifth Third Bank Continues Homeownership Education Despite Pandemic
Last month, Fifth Third Bank collaborated with the Cincinnati African American Chamber of Commerce, the Cincinnati Herald, the Dayton Defender and the Dayton Weekly newspapers to host two free virtual homeownership seminars, titled “Owning It,” in honor of national homeownership month.
Leaders in the community and economic development divisions and mortgage divisions who facilitated the events shared that they are intentional about helping clients through each step of the home buying process and that they want to see people achieve their dream of homeownership. They followed up with every person who registered for the event and each attendee after both seminars to answer any additional questions they had and to give them additional resources.
Community partner organizations participating in the events included Working in Neighborhoods, the Greater Cincinnati Realtist Association, the Dayton Area Board of Realtors, the Ohio Realtist Association and the Homeownership Center of Dayton. The event was supported by Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity and Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.
During the seminars, families learned about the Bank’s down payment assistance program that now pays up to $7,500 toward a down payment and closing costs for qualified buyers. Attendees also learned about things they need to consider when purchasing a home during the pandemic, the mortgage process, how to make sure they don’t go over budget when purchasing a home and how to get preapproved for a loan. The facilitators are planning on hosting two more virtual Owning It seminars by end of 2020.
Over the last four years, Fifth Third has given more than $9 million in down payment assistance to families who have purchased their first home. To learn more about Fifth Third’s mortgage options, please click here.
